During its investigation, Hindenburg alleged that it was able to easily create fake Cash App accounts under the names of high-profile individuals such as Donald Trump and Elon Musk. It also made public records requests and claimed to have found evidence that Cash App was used to facilitate millions of dollars in fraudulent pandemic relief payments from the government. Hindenburg stated that these findings highlighted significant shortcomings in the company’s compliance processes.
