De-dollarization means abandoning the US dollar as the global currency for trade, finance, and reserves. After the 2008 financial crisis, governments tried to diversify and reduce dollar exposure, strengthening the movement. De-dollarization implies trading in other currencies, supporting regional currencies, increasing gold reserves, and establishing alternative payment mechanisms. Due to this tendency, global economic governance may multi-polarize, fracture, or collaborate.
