According to official data, as of November 22, 2019, the CCS facility had stored 300,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. By 2050, the Japanese government predicts that the country would have stored between 120 and 240 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually in underground facilities. Survey results reveal that 16 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide could be stored in Japan’s offshore territory.
