For years, Reddit’s Data API served as a training ground for AI language models, collecting a trove of human-to-human conversations dating back 18 years. However, in an interview with The New York Times, Reddit founder Steve Huffman announced that they would be restricting access to this valuable resource. According to Huffman – “We don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free”. This decision puts an end to unlimited access by academics, researchers and companies looking to train AI models.
