Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, recently declared in the Rajya Sabha that NASA and ISRO have collaborated in the development of an earth science satellite known as NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar). The main goals of this satellite are to construct, fabricate, and deploy a dual-frequency (L and S band) radar imaging satellite, as well as to investigate novel applications utilizing L & S Band microwave data, notably in studies on surface deformation, biomass structure on land, mapping and monitoring of natural resources, and research on the dynamics of ice-sheets, glaciers, forests, oil slicks, and other topics.
